July not only brings the high numbers for the summer temperatures, but also pushes up the number of club events! DFWLX’s member of the month for July, Alvaro Lau-Camarena, or “camarenalvaro” on the forums, is one that you will see at the majority of the events. Alvaro has been a member of DFWLX since before he even owned a mopar! About a year before he bought his car, he started researching clubs and stumbled across the DFWLX website and reached out to our club President, Pedro Murillo. He asked if he could join the forums to learn as much about the club, and cars as he could while he worked towards becoming a Mopar owner. It was a first for Pedro, but he saw the enthusiasm that Alvaro had, and allowed him to join. True to his word, in about a year, Alvaro was the proud owner of his R/T Charger. Not just ANY charger….he is the proud owner of a pearl white with a black top, 100th Anniversary Edition Charger.
As an active member, Alvaro enjoys the people more than anything. He is the embodiment of DFWLX’s mission – the cars bring us together, but the people set us apart. Alvaro speaks fondly of his first few months attending DFWLX events. He was approached by season members, Jon and Melissa Szekely, and they made him feel welcome and inspired him to remain active. Alvaro credits the Szekely’s for making sure he met other members and was made to feel welcome at the meet and greets. In the time Alvaro has been a DFWLX member, he has made has made wonderful friends. Pedro, the first person who he reached out to join the club over two years ago would end up being the best man at Alvaro’s wedding. Building lifelong friendships and camaraderie is what DFWLX is all about.
When Alvaro is not detailing his car, or sitting in the garage gazing at it’s pearly white, he is busy building Arriel and Arrius turbine engines for Safran Turbomeca USA. These particular motors you will find on helicopters piloted by the US Coast Guard and other organizations all over the US and Europe. Alvaro graduated from college with a degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology and he also holds an FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.
Fun fact: While Alvaro was in college, he was a Soccer Referee for Women’s Pro, College and International Matches. WOAH!
Lastly, Alvaro expressed how much being a DFWLX member has impacted how much he enjoys his car. He enjoys being a member of a club that is recognized for giving back to the community that it functions in, and not for taking and causing trouble. He enjoys being able to say his club, DFWLX is a part of toys-for-tots, food drives, charity events, and the sheer fact that when we have a member in need – we take care of our own. No matter how big or small the problem.
Let’s all take a moment and thank Alvaro for his dedication and continued support for DFWLX. He is definitely one of the members we can count on seeing when there is an organized event or when someone needs a helping hand!
